There are four easy steps to gaining your LGV Driving licence

  • LGV Medical
  • Apply for Cat C provisional
  • Study for and take Theory tests
  • Then the 5 day practical driving course

LGV Medical

Contact us requesting a free information pack which contains the D4 Medical Examination form (which is no longer available for download from the DVLA website), alternatively these can be found in most Post Office branches.

The Medical Examination does not have to be performed by your own Doctor, the cost of the medical can vary between £40 and £140. We can recommend a couple Surgery’s that will do it for a set price of £45 if required

Apply for Cat C provisional

To apply for a Category C LGV Provisional Licence, simply send the completed D4 Medical Examination Form, and the D2 Licence application form, along with both parts of your licence to the DVLA. Once you receive your Provisional Licence, you can now contact us to arrange your free assessment drive.

Study for and take Theory tests
It is now time to study for your theory test modules 1 and 2, (AND module 3 if you passed you car driving test after Jan 1997). Give us a ring to arrange your FREE Theory Training Day, we do not charge for this training if you book your 5 day intensive course with us. We also sell a Starter Pack to help you on your way which contains the Official Theory Book and Hazard Perception DVD (see Starter Pack below).

Your 5 day practical driving course

Now that you have passed all your theory tests, you can start your 5 day intensive driving course with an extremely experienced and qualified SRTS instructor. Come the end of the week you should have passed your Category C Practical driving test and now be a qualified professional driver (unless you passed you car test after Jan 1997, in which case you will need to complete module 4 prior to starting work). It can take 5 to 10 working days for your new licence to arrive from the DVLA, at which point you can either get working or start your training for the Category C+E Articulated lorry.

Old name HGV  (Heavy Goods Vehicle) New Name LGV  (Large Goods Vehicle)

CONGRATULATIONS YOU ARE NOW A PROFESSIONAL DRIVER.

Your potential earnings should quickly recover the total cost of your training. Please feel free to contact us at any stage of the above process for help and advice.
